Hill & Mountain Walking

Summer conditions

We take groups walking anywhere from the Herefordshire hills to the Brecons or North Wales.

Summer conditions may see us taking on Seager Hill, Capler Hill or one of the other Herefordshire hills. For some this is a significant challenge and we want to see young people taste success in goals which are well pitched for them. A progression might be to walk up Sugar Loaf, then later maybe Pen Y Fan or Snowdon, or other adventurous mountains in North Wales. On the tougher end of our programmes we have taken groups on scrambles and challenging mountain walks in the Welsh mountains and have put together packages lasting between 1 and 3 days, depending upon the time available and the level of challenge we are looking for!

Winter conditions

Winter adventures are very much part of what we do, and this is a significant progression from the more challenging summer programmes we offer. We take groups on winter skills programmes to Scotland, usually based for 4-5 days in the Cairngorms. We cover basic winter walking skills, including ice axe and crampon use, self-belay, ice axe arrest, avalanche awareness, navigation in winter, route selection, emergency shelter digging and the programme might typically include a challenging walk up 2 or 3 of the highest mountains  in Scotland. This is quite a tough adventure and is a hugely rewarding experience in a very challenging environment. The detail of the programme is entirely dependent upon weather and conditions. The Moroccan Atlas mountains is an exciting area where we may begin to run adventurous trips in the near future……. Watch this space!

Rock Climbing

Indoors or outdoors

We take trips to the Hereford indoor climbing walls, outdoor rock at Symonds Yat, Shorn Cliff or further afield to Snowdonia and beyond. We have a number of excellent venues which provide the ideal location for complete beginners through to those who already have basic skills and want to develop their technique and experience. No prior experience is needed!

River Canoeing & Kayaking

We take groups down the river Wye and the Severn. Trips are either for the day or can include an overnight camp on one of the stunning locations we have access to along the river. We can use these beautiful locations to involve groups in outdoor cooking and shelter building (using some of the skills from the bush craft section below) for a memorable and exciting overnight experience. Again, no previous experience is needed.

Bush Craft & Survival Skills

We introduce groups to bush craft skills in the outdoors, such as fire lighting, cooking over an open fire and preparing and cooking food outdoors using a range of different cooking methods (open fires, cooking underground or in a fire pit). We make soup, bread, stews, potato wedges, puddings, and we have often prepared and roasted lamb or deer for larger groups.

We cover shelter building and living outdoors, and this culminates in an overnight camp where all of these skills are put to the test – a challenging and very rewarding experience!

Charity Abseils

We organise and deliver charity abseils for groups and organisations.

How does it work? Once you have a location and permission from the owner, we will do a site visit, inspection and report on the suitability and potential for the abseil. If our inspection shows that the location is suitable, (e.g. church towers or other large, solid buildings!) we will organise the day, providing all kit, equipment, instruction and safety measures to ensure a fun, challenging and safe experience which those taking part will not forget!

A minimum of 20 participants are needed for the day, and costs can be discussed on enquiry. The abseilers pay a registration fee in advance, (which covers our costs), and each abseiler raises a minimum figure (determined by you) which constitutes the amount which goes to the chosen charity.

1:1 Mentoring

These sessions are run by experienced mentors, who are able to help young people feel at ease and comfortable in talking. They take place in a rural setting and often involve outdoor cooking and a range of low-level activities such as a river walk as part of the day. The sessions are fun and tailored to focus on specific areas of character development and goal setting according to the needs of the young people.
