On our final mountain day, the guys practised arresting themselves with their ice axes – not an easy task and we were impressed by how they began to really master this technique. Apart from being very useful to keep them safe, it’s also a lot of fun!

The final shot shows some of the crew on the summit of Cairn Gorm (1244m). It is testament to them and their resilience, that they managed this in near whiteout conditions and with 60 mph gusts on the tops.

We also covered some really useful theory, including avalanche awareness and how to plan a safe route in challenging winter conditions.

You were a credit to your school, every one of you! Well done and we look forward to working alongside Canford School next year. Go well!
