Learning how to create a fire for cooking is a great skill to have as part of outdoor adventure.

‘Cutting out and rolling back the turf before making an underground oven for slow cooking all sorts of good things – a whole range of vegetables or in this case deer haunches. Cooking underground or boiling and roasting over an open fire is something we do a lot of. Lighting the fire is a real skill in itself and cooking up lunch is great fun and so rewarding when it’s ready!’
